She Kills Monsters by Qui Nguyen is an 80 minute performance, inspired by the long standing board game Dungeons & Dragons. Director Randee Trabitz alongside fight choreographer Edgar Landa, costumer Linda Muggeridge, set designer Chris Bell and dozens of Caltech undergraduates, graduate students, staff, JPL and community, re-create the early 90s atmosphere of an Ohio high school within the parallel fantasy world of D&D.

The play brings us into a world of bugbears, vampire cheerleaders, fairies, and battle-axe wielding lesbians, transported between high school and the fantasy lair of D&D. Agnes must fight them all off, including the five-headed dragon, as she delves deeper into the true identity of a sister she never really knew.

Once Agnes enters into the world of Dungeons and Dragons, she reunites with her sister Tilly, in a world of fantasy, adventure and romance.

Director Trabitz believes the play will be continuously produced, because it brings up urgent contemporary issues of "identity, escape into fantasy and the reality of losing a family member. It is also really funny." The New York Times called Monsters "a deceptively breezy and rather ingenious comedy."

Please Note: The play is performed without an intermission.
