Towards real world quantum networks
Raju Valivarthi, ICFO - The Institute of Photonic Sciences, Barcelona,

Pizza Lunch Seminar

Abstract: Internet has undoubtedly revolutionized the way of life of human beings of the 21st century. Storage, distribution and communication of personal (very often sensitive) data over Internet are a necessity for the modern lifestyle. However, the security of data over the current Internet infrastructure is vulnerable to the advent of a quantum computer. A new type of networks is emerging on the other hand, known as quantum networks which will help overcome this problem. In this talk, I will present the first demonstration of metropolitan scale quantum teleportation and also the first steps taken towards utilizing lit fibers (presence of strong classical light) for developing quantum networks, thereby significantly reducing their infrastructure cost.
