Environmental Science and Engineering Seminar

Dual-comb spectroscopy takes advantage of the broad bandwidth and high frequency resolution of frequency combs for precision spectroscopy. We have been developing open-path dual-comb spectroscopy and investigating its application to atmospheric spectroscopy. We currently have dual-comb spectrometers in both the near-infrared, near 1.6 micrometers, and the mid-infrared, near 3 micrometers. These systems are being explored for applications in regional carbon monitoring, oil/gas field monitoring, and spatial scanning for plume detection (via a retroreflector mounted on a small quadcopter).  I will describe the technique of dual-comb spectroscopy and summarize some of our recent trial experiments.
