Re: Update on Ruddock House Renaming Process

We write to update you on the work of the Ruddock House Renaming Committee (RHRC). The RHRC will guide the Caltech community through the critically important process of surveying and reviewing potential new names for Ruddock House.

RHRC members include Ruddock House students and alumni, administrators, and instructors. Satoshi Ohtake, PhD (BS '00 • Ruddock House), President of the Caltech Alumni Association, and Paulina Ridland (BS '21), Ruddock House President, are the RHRC co-chairs.

The RHRC will conduct its work following the principles outlined in the final report of the Committee on Naming and Recognition and will embrace our diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility values.

Your input and perspectives are important during this process. Members of the campus community are invited to submit their suggestions using this Ruddock House Name Nominations Submission Form. The submission form will be available until Tuesday, June 15, 2021.

The RHRC is committed to handling the process of renaming Ruddock House thoughtfully and inclusively. Therefore, the RHRC will vet all community submissions to verify that they meet the established principles for consideration. Once vetted, the RHRC will post the names for community comment. The RHRC will ultimately deliver a final short-list of names to President Rosenbaum for his consideration and recommendation to the Board of Trustees.

We sincerely thank the members of the RHRC for their commitment and ongoing efforts to help Caltech chart a future that represents and celebrates our values fully.
