Karen Sisson Resignation

June 12, 2023

To: The Caltech Community
From: Thomas F. Rosenbaum, Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair and Professor of Physics

Karen Sisson, who has served Caltech as Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer since 2021, has announced that she will resign July 15 to prioritize pressing family obligations.

Among her significant accomplishments as vice president, Karen has appointed new leadership in Facilities and Campus Safety, revised the CART process for emergency management, strengthened cybersecurity, and initiated planning for the Institute's first grant management system. Karen has been a devoted leader, taking great pride in fostering the individual and shared achievements of her direct reports and their groups. She has also championed improvements to processes, systems, and infrastructure to better support the Institute's research and academic missions. Work to identify Karen's successor has begun.

During the transition period, Margo Steurbaut, Karen's predecessor who retired in early 2021, will return to Caltech to serve as the interim vice president and chief financial officer.

Please join me in wishing Karen well as she transitions to the next chapter of her life, and welcoming Margo back to the Caltech community.
