Filming on Campus - Tuesday, February 21

February 16, 2017

We will have a television crew returning to campus on Tuesday, February 21, to film an episode of the HBO series "Silicon Valley." I am writing to give you an overview of what you can expect as a result of this event. Please share this information widely within your division, department, office, lab, etc., as well as any others I may have inadvertently left off.

Approximately 175 cast and crew members will be on campus from 4:00 AM until midnight. Caltech Security officers and I will be present the entire time, and together we will do everything we can to minimize the impact of the production on the campus community.

Filming will take place in the following locations:

  • 7:00 AM–12:00 PM - Service road behind the Annenberg Center and Moore Laboratory
  • 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM - Holliston Ave between Del Mar Blvd and circular area (IMPORTANT: During this time, Holliston will be closed at Del Mar. Traffic will be rerouted to access areas south of filming location via Hill Ave at San Pasqual St.)
  • 3:00 PM–6:00 PM - Gates Library (Gates Annex)
  • 6:00 PM–9:00 PM - Noyes 153 (Sturdivant Lecture Hall)

Areas immediately surrounding these areas, as well as locations in between, will be affected by the production. Preparation and clean-up will take place in each location for several hours before and after. During this time, pedestrian and/or vehicle access will be permitted, but please be aware there will be an unusually large number of people and amount of equipment at each.

In addition, trucks and production vehicles will be parked in the North Wilson Parking Structure, along the east side of Wilson Ave (between San Pasqual and Del Mar), in the Mead-Noyes Utility Area, and along Holliston Ave. Service areas will remain accessible for deliveries, as will assigned parking spaces and parking for people with disabilities. Some walking paths will be blocked at times, but ramps and building entrances for those with disabilities will always be accessible.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Allison Benter (ext. 6624), or Deborah Williams-Hedges (ext. 3227) in the Office of Strategic Communications. Thank you for your assistance in making this event a success.
