Re: Bringing the Caltech Community Back Together
As we begin to transition to full on-campus operations in preparation for the fall, with the continuing uncertainty of the pandemic and the circulating Delta variant upon us, we appreciate that many members of our community are experiencing a wide range of emotions, questions, and concerns. All of us—those of us who continued to report on-site this past year, those of us who are returning to campus after more than a year away, and those of us who may not yet be able to gather in-person with colleagues and peers—are again in an important period of adjustment and change.
To help the Institute to better understand individuals' experiences throughout the pandemic, to plan for expanded operations, and to support community members through this transition, we invite everyone to participate in an online survey, administered through the Office of Institutional Research. In addition to soliciting general feedback, the survey is an opportunity to note interest in the opportunity for opt-in surveillance testing.
The survey will remain open for responses through Friday, August 27.
A campus committee, established by President Thomas F. Rosenbaum and Provost David A. Tirrell to serve as a central planning group for identifying, proposing, and coordinating resources to benefit individuals' and the community's well-being, is leading this effort. The committee, which we have agreed to lead together, has been meeting weekly over the last month with the purpose of anticipating and responding to potential wellness challenges that might arise over the next couple of months and to facilitate and direct programs and resources that can help navigate the transition.
In bringing together representatives from across campus, including faculty, staff, students, postdoctoral scholars, and administrators, we intend to build strategically upon and enhance the work already undertaken by Student Affairs, Human Resources, Caltech's Center for Inclusion and Diversity, and the Staff and Faculty Consultation Center, all of whom have hosted programs and launched new efforts to foster community and connection throughout the pandemic.

Reuniendo Nuevamente a la Comunidad de Caltech
A medida que iniciamos la transición de regreso a las operaciones completas en el campus como preparación para el otoño y con la incertidumbre de la pandemia y de la variante Delta que circula entre nosotros, sabemos que muchos miembros de nuestra comunidad están teniendo diversas emociones, dudas e inquietudes. Todos nosotros – los que hemos venido a trabajar al campus durante este último año, los que regresaremos al campus después de más de un año de ausencia y los que aún no podemos reunirnos en persona con nuestros colegas y compañeros – nos encontramos de nuevo en un importante período de ajustes y cambios.
Para ayudar al Instituto a conocer mejor las experiencias de las personas a lo largo de la pandemia, planear la ampliación de las operaciones y apoyar a los miembros de la comunidad durante esta transición, invitamos a todos a participar en una encuesta en línea administrada a través de la Oficina de Investigación Institucional. Tirrell, para que sirva de grupo central de planificación con el fin de identificar, proponer y coordinar los recursos en beneficio del bienestar de las personas y de la comunidad.
