About the Speaker:

Leonard David has been writing about space exploration for so long, he is sometimes labeled a "veteran" space reporter. Growing up in San Diego, California, he has long had JPL in his sights, going back to the Laboratory's early Ranger impacts on the Moon. Leonard will discuss his periodic rendezvous with JPL engineers and scientists, and what he has learned from both closed-door and open interviews. He will also share personal observations about how JPL's vision for the future has helped frame his thoughts about 21st century space exploration. It may not be all pretty, but the future is on full-bright.

Leonard David has been exploring space as a journalist for over 50 years. He pens a column for SPACE.com, and is a correspondent for SpaceNews magazine and a contributing writer for several publications, including Scientific American and Aerospace America. He has authored several books, including Moon Rush: The New Space Race, and Mars—Our Future on the Red Planet. With Apollo 11's Buzz Aldrin, he coauthored Mission to Mars—My Vision for Space Exploration. He received the American Astronautical Society's Ordway Award for Sustained Excellence in Spaceflight History in 2015 and the National Space Club Press Award in 2010.
