Contestation and Representation: Community, Conflict, and History in Los Angeles
Lizeth Ramirez, Librarian/Archivist for Los Angeles Communities and Cultures, UCLA,
Dalena Sanderson-Hunter, Librarian/Archivist for Los Angeles Communities and Cultures, UCLA,
Devin Fitzgerald, Curator of Rare Books and History of Printing, UCLA,

The UCLA Library Special Collections houses a wealth of materials by and about the history of the city of Los Angeles. Lizeth Ramirez and Dalena Sanderson-Hunter - the Archivist/Librarians for Los Angeles Communities and Cultures responsible for curating and developing that aspect of the archives and Devin Fitzgerald- Rare Books Curator - will join the Caltech community for a special presentation of images and materials documenting the history of the city. Featured materials from the collection will be interwoven with a discussion of the context out of which each emerged, the broad interpretations of community identity linked to these representations, and the purposeful efforts to reinvent, reclaim, and reinterpret the ways in which LA's diverse communities belonged to the greater whole.
