We Have No Idea: Science Communication with Humor and Comics

Lecture, Book Launch, and Signing with:

  • Jorge Cham, former Caltech postdoc and creator of PhD Comics
  • Daniel Whiteson, Particle Physicist and Professor, UC Irvine

PHD Comics creator Jorge Cham and particle physicist Daniel Whiteson have teamed up on We Have No Idea: A Guide to the Unknown Universe, an entertaining and lucid explanation of the Universe and what little we know of it. Exploring the biggest unanswered questions in Cosmology and Physics, they explain why these things are still mysteries, and what a lot of smart people are doing to figure out the answers. They also work to demystify many complicated things we do know about, from quarks and neutrinos to gravitational waves and exploding black holes. With humor and relatability, they'll talk about the origin of their collaboration and about closing the gap in our society between researchers and scientists and the general public.

The authors will sign copies of their book (available for purchase) from12:00 pm -- 2:00 pm and  at 4:00 pm at the Caltech Bookstore!
