Unpacking Hate: Antisemitism and Its Tropes
Join CCID for our inaugural quarterly webinar series, Unpacking Hate, where we invite speakers to our virtual brave space to address the social, political, and historical context of topics that explore hate and fear.
When it comes to anti-Jewish hatred, what's old is often new again. Many antisemitic tropes remain stubbornly recurring, never fully disappearing from view and often reemerging after decades of dormancy. In this in-depth information session, the focus will be on unpacking hate as a way to hone the skills to recognize and counter current antisemitism as well as understand its connection to past patterns. Participants will learn the historical context of contemporary examples with the intention of creating better awareness and sensitivity around fraught vocabulary, triggering images, and disturbing symbols. Attendees will leave this session empowered to better recognize antisemitism in the here-and-now, understand the importance of being upstanders and denounce antisemitism whenever and wherever they see it, and be better prepared to confront it in their lived experiences. Faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, alumni, and students are encouraged to RSVP and attend.
