Teaching and Writing at Caltech: Past, Present, Future

Photographic Exhibit Opening and Reception

RSVP Here

This photography exhibit will allow visitors to see what learning has looked like at Caltech for more than a century—from the austere classrooms of the early days of Throop University to the diverse scenes of learning at today's Caltech. The exhibit will include images from the Caltech Archives as well as modern-day photographs, some of which are part of a national photo documentary project about teaching and learning in higher education. The images will invite you to consider Caltech's long history of high-engagement learning, how teaching is changing, and the enduring presence of writing in both learning and scientific discovery. This event will feature remarks from curators , photographers, and Archives staff, who will place the exhibit within a broader higher-education context. Light refreshments will be served.

The exhibit is co-curated by Martin Springborg, photographer and faculty member at Minnesota State; Cassandra Volpe Horii, director of the Caltech Center for Teaching, Learning, and Outreach; and Susanne Hall, campus writing coordinator in the Hixon Writing Center and lecturer in writing. The curators thank Peter Collopy, university archivist and head of special collections, and the staff of the Caltech Archives
