An introduction to solar inertial waves
Catherine Blume, Graduate Student, Astrophysical & Planetary Sciences, UColorado Boulder,

Abstract: Over the past seven years, a veritable menagerie of inertial oscillations---waves for which the Coriolis force is the restoring force---have been observed on the Sun. This has raised two very important questions: what is their dynamical impact on the physical processes in the Sun, and can we use them as a seismic probe of the solar interior? This talk will use 3D numerical simulation results of the solar interior to provide an overview of the state of solar inertial wave research and explore the different kinds of waves, their physical impact, and their potential helioseismic utility.
