The Caltech Center for Inclusion & Diversity, Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and Caltech Postdoctoral Association's Diversity committee is jointly hosting a STEMinar on "How to Build a Successful STEM Mentoring Legacy". The speaker of the Event, Dr. Caroline Ylitalo is a Division Scientist in the 3M Personal Safety Division. A chemical engineer by training, Dr. Ylitalo in her 30-year career at 3M has focused on developing new technologies that can be used across multiple businesses including printing inks, graphics films, antimicrobial technologies, and respiratory protection products.

Her many volunteering and mentoring accomplishments both inside and outside 3M have been recognized with multiple awards including the 3Mgives Volunteer award, the Society of Women Engineers Spark award and the 2023 American Chemical Society award for Encouraging Women into Careers in the Chemical Sciences, sponsored by the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation.
