In this seminar, Dr. Alvelda will describe his vision to design and develop complete systems with highly-‐scalable direct neural interface technologies to provide full-‐duplex communica on with specific cortical regions. The envisioned "cortical modem" technology can go beyond simply restoring lost function.This research will require collaboration across multiple disciplines, including but not limited to:

* Medical materials & device packaging
* Computer science
* Molecular and synthetic biology
* Neuroscience
* Rapid prototyping
* Design for manufacture
