Personal Experiences & Lessons Learned in 20+ Years of Industrial R&D
William Banholzer, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer , Dow Chemical Company,
Scientific research is both exciting and frustrating: it can improve the human condition and create wealth, but it can also end in futility. This talk draws on the speaker's personal research experience, ranging from stealth materials to diamond synthesis, as case studies to share perspectives on selecting research topics, applying the proper tools, and determining when to terminate a program. The importance of presentation skills and advice on career management is also discussed.
