Presented By: Caltech Folk Music Society

Rita Hosking makes her first appearance at Caltech as an up-and-coming singer and songwriter from Northern California who is gaining lots of attention in the music world. She was winner of Best Country Album (Vox Pop) in the 2010 Independent Music Awards, winner of the 2008 Dave Carter Memorial Songwriting Contest at the Sisters Folk Festival, finalist in the 2009 Telluride Troubadour Contest, and has other credits as well. She may remind you of Kate Wolf and Gillian Welch, but she is very much her own performer. She proves that you can have genuine rural folk music from California (she was raised in Shasta County) and she's written lots of fine songs from that setting.

We are delighted that she will be bringing her full band, Cousin Jack, on this tour, so we'll have Rita on guitar; her husband, Sean Feder, on banjo, dobro, upright bass, and guitar; Andy Lentz on fiddle; and Bill Dakin on upright bass and guitar. They generally gather around one microphone to sing, and they feature some tremendous harmonies. The program will be based on the strong songs from Rita's last recording, "Come Sunrise."
