Consciousness & Reality Colloquium: Quantum Cosmology & The Role of Qualia
Consciousness & Reality Colloquium Series 2023-24 Inaugural Lecture
Lee Smolin
Research Professor of Theoretical Physics, Perimeter Institute
Adjunct Professor, University of Waterloo
Over the last few years I have become increasingly convinced that the
problems that keep us from making substantial progress in the
foundations of physics, including both quantum gravity and the
foundations of physics more generally, are each unsolvable in the
absence of an overall solution. We need new ideas. Here I propose a new
starting point, qualia playing a role in relational quantum cosmology,
that I believe is closer to the truth.

ABOUT THE EVENT
This lecture will be accessible to an interdisciplinary audience. Caltech and Stanford members from all divisions are welcome to join. Select questions from the Q&A window will be answered after the lecture.
ABOUT THE SERIES
The Consciousness & Reality colloquium series promotes interdisciplinary investigations on mind, cognition, consciousness, and the nature of reality. This colloquium is inaugurating the 2023-24 series.
