Coffee & Career: Shiz Aoki

Join us for an informal coffee hour to chat with our guest, Shiz Aoki, and learn how she went from being the lead scientific illustrator for National Geographic to being the cofounder and CEO of BioRender.

Shiz Aoki is the co-founder and CEO of BioRender (also known as the "Adobe for Science") a software tool that enables scientists to quickly and accurately create figures for their research. Prior to starting BioRender, she studied at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in medical illustration, was lead science illustrator at National Geographic Magazine for 8 years, and founded the award-winning graphics company, Anatomize Studios. Her passion lies in democratizing science communication via innovative and accessible tools in order to accelerate scientific research and discovery.

BioRender (https://biorender.com/) is a web app that lets scientists quickly create and share high quality biological illustrations using a standardized, robust and scientifically accurate image library. Remarkably better and faster than PowerPoint or Adobe Illustrator, it's like having a professional science illustrator on your team, 24/7!

This is a free event open to all Caltech postdocs and grad students. Coffee and cookies will be served starting 3:15 pm. Be sustainable. Bring your own mug!

This event will be held in Little Chandler.
