The Art of Science Fiction Landscape Creation

Discover the methods and philosophies behind the creation of fictional landscapes from blockbuster movies and video games cinematics. Over the course of the lecture, Jonathan explains how science and research influences artistic decisions to create believable environments and why patterns found in the world around us provide an endless bank of information.

The seminar will be broken into 5 blocks.

1) Introduction about the speaker, past experience and academic background. 2) Review of the Starcraft II Protoss campaign cinematic and the philosophies behind creating the planet of Aiur and its ecosystem. 3) Review of a feature film trailer and processes behind creating believable landscapes and weather systems. 4) Review of the Starcraft II Zerg campaign cinematic and the philosophies behind predicting the evolution of urbanism. 5) Q&A
