This event was open to members of The Friends of Beckman Auditorium at the Contributing Level and above. For information on this community-based support group for Caltech Public Events, including the many other benefits enjoyed by Friends' members, please see the Friends of Beckman web page.

Join The Friends for a full day which includes a look back at California history and a view forward into the future of scientific research. The day will include three exciting stops:

  • lunch and tour of the new site of the Owens Valley Radio Observatories, now known as CARMA (Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-Wave Astronomy
  • a tour of the Manzanar National Historic Site and museum
  • tour of the ancient Bristlecone Pine trees, the oldest living inhabitants of our planet

The cost of the trip includes transporation, lunch, and tours; a take-out dinner may be purchased separately in Lone Pine before departing for home.

Cost: $95 per person (Contributing Level and above)
Members at the Participating Level may join the tour by upgrading to a Contributing Level membership with an additional tax-deductible gift of $40.

Reservations and payment must be received by Friday, June 16th. Please note that we cannot issue refunds after this date.
