Eisenstein series, unitary representations, and scattering amplitudes
Stephen Miller, Professor and Vice Chair, Mathematics, Rutgers University,

I will describe a joint project with Michael Green and Pierre Vanhove on the representation-theoretic properties of certain Eisenstein series, namely ones which appear in the string theory low energy expansion of the 4-graviton scattering amplitude. Supersymmetry predicts the first few terms in the expansion have unusually low growth rates. This can then be used to show the unitarizability of the representations in question, proving new cases of Arthur's conjecture.
