A microwave radiometer has been developed and integrated into the tip of a radiofrequency ablation catheter. The radiometer measures subsurface heart tissue temperature during ablation. This temperature measurement provides the electrophysiologist with previously unavailable real-time treatment feedback increasing the safety and efficacy of the procedure. Design of the device and some challenges of a startup technology venture will be discussed.
