Harmonic Maps and Teichmuller Theory
Nathaniel Sagman, Department of Mathematics, Caltech,
I will introduce the subject of harmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds and discuss some applications to rigidity problems in geometry. I will then outline some basic aspects of Teichmuller theory and its interactions with the study of harmonic maps between surfaces. Time permitting, I will discuss some recent developments: universal Teichmuller space and the Schoen conjecture
