Title: Post-merger evolutions of compact binaries

Abstract: Black hole-neutron star and neuron star-neutron star mergers can produce not only gravitational wave signals but also electromagnetic counterparts.  These electromagnetic signals relate to matter and energy outflows produced seconds after the merger, a timescale much longer than the dynamical timescale of the remnant.  Post-merger systems also involve an intimidatingly wide range of scales in length, density, accretion rate, and neutrino optical depth.  In this talk, I will describe efforts by several research groups (including mine) to numerically model this late-time post-merger phase, giving particular attention to the subtleties of treating turbulent magnetized fluids in axisymmetric models, and I will outline the emerging picture.
