KNI20 Anniversary Symposium

Join the Kavli Nanoscience Institute in celebration of a significant milestone – twenty years of operation and impact – along with current and former community members, friends, and supporters of its nanoscience and nanoscale engineering research center.

The KNI20 celebration will kick off with a public lecture by Caltech alumnus (PhD '64) and Kavli Prize Laureate (2022) Dr. George Whitesides from Harvard University. This public talk will take place in Beckman Auditorium at 4:30 pm on Thursday, March 7, 2024. We invite our friends, colleagues, and local community members to join us for this exciting talk.

On Friday, March 8, the KNI will host a full-day scientific symposium to discuss the current landscape of nano-scale challenges and opportunities and envision novel techniques, processes, and developments that could push the boundaries of nanoscience during the next decade and beyond. The preliminary program is outlined below.

  • 10:30 AM: Invited Talk, John Martinis (UC Santa Barbara)
  • 11:15 PM: Invited Talk, Tim Archer (President and CEO, LAM Research; B.S. Applied Physics, '89; Fleming)
  • 12:00 PM: Lunch
  • 1:30 PM: KNI 20th Anniversary Video
  • 1:40 PM: KNI Directors Panel Discussion moderated by EAS Chair Harry A. Atwater, featuring Julia R. Greer, Michael L. Roukes, Axel Scherer, Nai-Chang Yeh
  • 3:00 PM: Keynote Talk by Steven Chu (Stanford University)
  • 4:00-6:00 PM: Poster Session and Reception
