Our next Community Science Event will be headlined by Professor Konstantin Batygin on the topic "Jupiter's Grand Attack." He will talk about a time Jupiter swung around and flung other planets into the Sun, making our Solar System look the way it does today. Activities and demonstrations will follow, related to NGSS disciplinary core ideas under ESS1: Earth's Place in the Universe, e.g. astronomy and planetary sciences.

Come join us for this educational outreach extravaganza and lesson-jam teachathon! Dinner and dessert will be served.

  • 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm – Keynote seminar by faculty
  • 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm – Activities and lab demos by partners
  • 6:30 pm to 8 pm – Collaborative lesson creation by teachers

If you would like to build an activity or run a demo, register now! and make a difference in our local schools.

If you would like to participate as a teacher -- or know a teacher who would like to participate -- register now! and be part of our teaching and learning community.

At our Community Science Events, university faculty present seminars on cutting edge research. Students and staff showcase interactive lab demonstrations spanning all levels. Arts and humanities representatives provide context and links to other areas, e.g. history, language, music, and writing. Teachers at all levels follow up right then and there by creating lessons together using SKIES, a platform which makes it easy to assemble media-rich units linked to each other through core disciplinary strands and shared thoughts.
