A Formal Approach to Data Privacy

Organizations commonly hold databases of sensitive information that they would like to use or publish in some sanitized manner. How can they do so? At what cost to the people whose information is contained in the database? At what loss of usefulness? What are the tradeoffs involved? How can one reason formally about private information? <br><br> In this talk we provide an introduction to the notion of differential privacy and a taste of recent results in this area.
