Sphere packing, 3d gravity, and random CFTs

I will describe new developments on the connection between the conformal bootstrap, the sphere packing problem, and quantum gravity in three dimensions. This point of view suggests a relationship between the sum over topologies in 3d gravity and averaging over moduli in the dual CFT.
