Phases with Generalized Symmetries
Alison Warman,
University of Oxford,
After a review of generalized symmetries, of "non-invertible", "higher-form" and (representation of) "higher-group" type, we summarize the systematic classification of gapped and gapless phases with such symmetries by means of the "Symmetry Topological Field Theory" (SymTFT). We then present novel examples of phases with generalized symmetries in (1+1)d and (2+1)d. These include gapped phases that exhibit novel patterns of symmetry breaking wherein the symmetry broken ground states carry distinct kinds of topological order and "intrinsically gapless" phases which cannot be deformed to gapped phases with analogous symmetry properties.
The talk is in 469 Lauritsen.
