Inflatable Dark Matter and the Diphoton Resonance: New Phenomenology with a Simple Lagrangian
Sam McDermott, SUNY Stony Brook,

Much about the universe remains to be discovered at the phenomenological level. As a demonstration, I'll show how different limits of a simple toy Lagrangian (an uncharged scalar coupled to some number of fermions) can give rise to interesting phenomenology without tuning: it is natural to achieve a non-standard cosmology or to the recently observed diphoton excess at the LHC in much of natural parameter space. If either of these scenarios is realized in nature, it would have dramatic implications for our outlook on the universe and could sharply alter our expectations of physics at many different energy scales.
