Distilling Quantum Structure: Efficiently Simulating and Learning Quantum Systems
Many elements of quantum device design, control, and operation are full of useful, albeit non-human-evident, structure. In this talk, we discuss various HPC and AI methods of exploiting such structure to meaningfully advance quantum science. Specifically, we take a panoramic view of research projects in both HPC quantum simulation and AI for quantum computer design. In the former, we leverage properties like symmetry, sparsity, and energetic relevance for performant GPU-based simulations. In the latter, we deploy AI models to extract and harness the insight provided by such simulations for accelerated AI inference and inverse design. In all projects, we aspire to advance quantum science while doing as little work as possible.
