Guest Consultations with Teaching Coach and Comedian, Chris Duffy

Chris will provide one-on-one consultations and coaching sessions designed to figure out individual strengths and ways to incorporate joy and humor into instruction. Sessions will focus on answering questions like:

  • What are your current challenges in teaching

  • What parts of the course/subject are you most excited about?

  • What parts of the course/subject do students historically get most excited about?

  • How can your personal passion and personality shine through the content

Participants will leave with actionable, practical, and personalized ways to enjoy their teaching and lectures more thoroughly, and to make it more enjoyable (and effective!) for their students. These lessons can also be applied to non-traditional "teaching" environments, such as public lectures and educational outreach with younger students.

By popular demand Chris Duffy returns to Caltech for TeachWeek after his workshop and live show recording here in 2014, featuring Professor Jose Andrade talking about Granular Materials! He is producer and host of You're the Expert, a live show, podcast, and new public radio program that uses comedy to make academic research more accessible and exciting. The Onion A.V. Club says that "education and enlightenment are the grand prizes lying behind the velvet curtain, and anyone listening [to the show] can win."

Update, Tuesday, October 20, 2015: Online RSVPs for individual consultations have now closed. The few remining consultation times will be available for sign-up in person at Chris's workshop, 12:00 - 2:00 pm in Dabney Lounge.
