So weit die Füsse tragen "As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me" (2001)
Directed by
Hardy Martins - with Bernhard Bettermann
Adapted from the Best Seller by Josef Martin Bauer - based on a true story

In 1944, German paratrooper Clemens Forell was captured by the Soviets and sentenced to twenty-five years of labor in a Siberian lead mine. Predictably enough, the mine proves to be a dangerous and dispiriting environment, and after three years, Forell decides he can stand it no longer and makes escape plans. He makes his break in the dead of winter. Hunters first discover him and intend to turn him back in. A band of Eskimos comes to his rescue. After a few seasons with the Eskimos, Forell resumes his journey trying to get back home. He narrowly escapes capture in Siberia and finds an unexpected ally as he tries to cross into Iran.
