The geomorphology of the ocean floor: Advances in the assessment of marine hazards and natural resources
Aaron Micallef, Senior Scientist, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel,

During this talk I will present results from three recent research projects where innovative mapping and observational techniques have been used to investigate the dynamics of seafloor and sub-seafloor evolution and improve the assessment of marine hazards and natural resources:

Bionote: Aaron Micallef is a senior scientist at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research in Kiel. He holds a MSc in environmental geomorphology from the University of Oxford and PhD in marine geology from the University of Southampton. Throughout his research career, Aaron has combined field and geophysical observations with numerical analyses to study a range of seafloor phenomena in continental margins, mainly in relation to slope instability, seafloor erosion, and marine hydrologeology. Aaron is also chairman of the Submarine Geomorphology working group within the International Association of Geomorphologists.
