Hydrologic dynamics of the Greenland ice sheet
Vena Chu,
Assistant Professor, Dept. of Geography,
UC Santa Barbara,
The current need for forecasting Greenland Ice Sheet contributions to global sea level rise is complicated by the lack of understanding of ice sheet hydrology. This presentation examines components of the Greenland hydrologic system (including supraglacial rivers and moulins, proglacial rivers, and fjord sediment plumes) to understand the spatial and temporal dynamics of meltwater runoff. Geospatial technologies are combined with field measurements to answer: Where does water escape the ice sheet? Does all the water come out? What are the dominant physical processes for water transport?
