The coral reef is an ecosystem built by millions and millions of individual animals. In this crowded, frenetic community, every individual has to find its own place and its own way of surviving. In addition to the crown of thorn starfish, the hump head parrot fish, and the colorful harlequin shrimp, this episode features the brown surgeon fish, which streams across the reefs in the Red Sea in large numbers and practices an unusual breeding technique.

A BBC/Discovery Channel co-production.

Annelise Thompson, a graduate student in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Caltech, will introduce the film and guide the post-screening discussion.
