I Bought a Rainforest

Ever since his teenage job working on David Attenborough's landmark series 'Trials of Life,' wildlife documentarian Charlie Hamilton James has always felt at home in nature. But his spur-of-the-moment decision to purchase 100 acres of land adjacent to Peru's Manú National Park led to him running with a completely different set. As documented on the BBC show I Bought a Rainforest, Hamilton discovered an illegal cocaine plantation after he'd signed the deed, and the only way to save the ecosystem was with empathy for the illegal loggers. Hear his fascinating stories of working with these local characters and get a look at his recent work in Yellowstone National Park and beyond.

Tapio Schneider, the Theodore Y. Wu Professor of Environmental Science and Engineering at Caltech and Jet Propulsion Laboratory Senior Research Scientist, will moderate a post-presentation conversation with the audience that focuses on the roles that rainforests and other natural phenomena have on our climate with an opportunity for the audience to participate in the conversation.
