Channel Coding in Wireless
Martin Bossert, Channel Coding in Wireless, Communications Engineering, University of Ulm, Germany,
Channel coding is an essential part of digital wireless communication systems. The fading of the signal due to multipath propagation causes errors, which need to be corrected. The talk discusses several aspects of coding and decoding for the commonly used code classes. Bit error rates after decoding are used to compare the performance of different schemes and algorithms. Since the signal power has huge variations the concept of link adaption including coding and modulation is discussed. Several historical aspects in the development of mobile communication systems are also addressed. The future standard will use all sophisticated methods in order to provide large data rates at high quality of service for the users.
