Skoltech: Accelerating Innovations
Edward F. Crawley, President, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology,

The Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech), formed in 2011 in collaboration with MIT and the Skolkovo Foundation is a new international research university with focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.  The Institute located just outside Moscow, Russia, features Master's and PhD programs in five strategic areas: Biomedical Science, Energy, Information Technology, Nuclear Science and Technology, and Space Science and Technology. By 2020, the Institute plans to have 1,200 students, 200 professors and 440 postdoctoral associates.

The Institute is organized around 15 Centers for Research, Education, and Innovation (CREIs) established in collaboration with key international and Russian partner universities. The CREIs will integrate and contribute to research and innovation, as well as graduate education in the areas likely to have significant economic and social impact in Russia and around the world.

Skoltech is envisioned as a "portal of opportunities" for Russian and international scholars, students, and industrial leaders to engage into collaborative interdisciplinary research with consideration of use. In developing its capacity the Institute is seeking scholars including doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows and faculty interested in joining the Institute. We are also seeking to build a network of "friends of Skoltech" – scholars and industry professionals willing to help Institute's development in various capacities.
