Environmental Justice in Los Angeles
Maya Golden-Krasner, Senior Attorney, Climate Law Institute at the Center for Biological Diversity,

Environmental justice is a concept that combines civil rights and environmentalism; it is a recognition that those most vulnerable in our society—low-income communities and people of color—bear the burden of the most harm from pollution. Los Angeles, a diverse and in many ways divided city that faces significant environmental problems, provides a quintessential case study for environmental injustice. Ms. Golden-Krasner's talk will explore how LA's legacy of air pollution, poor land use decisions, and oil extraction provides a lens through which we can examine some of the systemic causes of environmental injustice, as well as the legal and other tools used to combat it.

The talk will end at 1pm and will be followed by an informal conversation with the speaker until 1:30pm.

Lunch provided - come promptly. All members of the community are welcome to attend.
