Dr. Marshall Brennan, Editor in Chief of the newly launched journal Device, will discuss the vision of the journal, publishing opportunities and best practices at Cell Press, and advice for writing papers and navigating peer review at large. He will discuss trends in new research and how this impacts continuing developments in technology, with an emphasis toward highlighting potential cross-disciplinary opportunities.

About Marshall: Marshall graduated with his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Texas at Austin before transitioning to academic publishing. Prior to joining Cell Press as the editor in chief for Device, he was an editor for Nature Chemistry, founded the preprint server ChemRxiv, and served as the scientific director for the Society of Laboratory Automation and Screening.
He has previously held positions leading product teams in deep tech startups, building AI/ML tools for automated and "self-driving" laboratories and hardware augmentation for liquid handling robots. Early in his career, he worked at pharmaceutical companies, such as Novartis, developing drug-delivery technology. His broad experience with the entire technology development process—from ideation and validation up through development and deployment—has made him an expert in integrating diverse technologies into breakthrough devices.
