Director: Benjamin Heisenberg with Andreas Lust, Franziska Weisz

An adaptation of the novel by Martin Prinz (2002) based on the life of Johann Kastenberger who frustrated Austrian police for years. Here, convicted robber Johann Rettenberger has just returned from prison. He runs marathons and robs banks. He is driven to run and motivated by the adrenaline effect of the robberies. Eventually h e uses his marathon skills to escape the largest deployment of police officers in Austria's post-war history. Johann leads an absurd life and does absurd things. He is acting consistently to the end while he is a stranger to the normal world. We see a lifelong training regiment slowly come to a halt, revealing the cracks that have been there all along. It turns out, Johann s carefully modulated routine, his brilliant focus, is no match for fate. A sleek, sparse study of existentialism.
