Aviation Week & Space Technology recently published a series of articles about a perceived "Crisis in Aerospace," citing research and a rash of problems that suggested cracks were appearing in the industry's foundations. A few industry executives initially pooh-poohed the concerns expressed in the articles, but a torrent of feedback from readers indicated Aviation Week was definitely on target. Since then, several executives have acknowledged the stories were accurate, but asked the magazine's editors to abandon the issue. "You're making it hard for us to attract and keep good people," one remarked.

Are enough of us aware of what's happening in the industry? As the preeminent aerospace trade magazine, Aviation Week is in a unique position to provide us important insight into what's happening with our aerospace partners (and perhaps shed some light on our own challenges here at JPL).

Joining us for this thought-provoking discussion will be William B. Scott, Rocky Mountain Bureau Chief and 15-year veteran of Aviation Week. Joining him will be Paul Pencikowski, who devoted several years researching complex trends in the industry while also serving as an Advanced Projects Manager for an aerospace prime contractor. David Urie is CEO of Concept Fusion, a 1997 start-up company he co-founded after a 30-year career at Lockheed-Martin Skunk Works.
