CMA Presents "Science vs Entertainment: Conflict and Compromise"

Tuesday, February 29, 2000
4:45pm to 6:00pm
Add to Cal
JPL, von Karman Auditorium
Dr. Robert L. Forward, scientist and science fiction writer,
Robert D. Forward, television script writer,

Science is a two-edged sword. It inspires the mind to look upward, but can also bore the uninitiated to tears. Robert L. Forward (father) and Robert D. Forward (son) will discuss their attempts to inspire the public by injecting science into the real world and the world of make believe. This father-and-son team has a unique vantage point to do this because Robert L. Forward discovers secrets of nature and then communicates them to the masses, and Robert D. Forward works to entertain the masses while occasionally slipping in the secrets of nature.

Dr. Robert L. Forward is a consulting scientist, future technologist, lecturer, and science fact and science fiction writer. He is owner and chief scientist of Forward Unlimited, a consulting firm established in 1962, specializing in exotic physics and advanced space propulsion. He is also a partner and chief scientist of Tethers Unlimited, a partnership formed in 1994 with Dr. Robert P. Hoyt, specializing in highly survivable space tethers. Robert D. Forward has been working in television animation for 20 years as a storyboard artist, writer, story editor, director, and producer. His most recent projects were the series "Beast Wars–Transformers" and "The Roswell Conspiracies." He is currently working on "Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future" as a supervising producer and story editor.
