JPL, von Karman Auditorium
Paula Apsell, Senior executive producer, NOVA, PBS,

Please join us as Paula Apsell discusses the art of science communication on television and online. Using clips from the internationally acclaimed series NOVA, she will share how difficult scientific and sometimes challenging material is made not only accessible, but compelling to a wide range of viewers. She will also present the challenges and opportunities scientists face as they compete for the public's attention in an increasingly fractured and crowded landscape.

As director of the WGBH Science Unit and senior executive producer of NOVA, Paula Apsell has overseen the production of hundreds of acclaimed science documentaries. Under her leadership, NOVA continues to be the most watched primetime science series on American television and has won every major broadcasting award, including the Emmy, the Peabody, and the Dupont-Columbia Gold Baton. The recipient of numerous individual awards, Apsell has served on the board of the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

This event is free. All members of the JPL community and retirees are welcome.
