CMA Presents "Using Wind to Build the Megaliths of Ancient Egypt"

Thursday, April 6, 2006
4:45pm to 6:00pm
Add to Cal
JPL, von Karman Auditorium
Maureen Clemmons, President, Transformations,

The ancient Egyptians were sailors who knew how to use the wind, as were the monument builders of both Easter Island and Stonehenge. Come hear a novel explanation of how ancient Egyptians, using only the wind, constructed the megalithic monuments of antiquity. Dr. Maureen Clemmons, in collaboration with Dr. Mory Gharib of Caltech, erected a 16-ton obelisk in the Mojave Desert, employing wind as the motive force. This research is now being used to build a 24-ton "step" pyramid in the Mojave Desert and will next be applied to construct a 106-ton "true" pyramid in Mexico. Join us as Dr. Clemmons explores the possibility of harnessing an abundant natural resource to answer one of the greatest engineering enigmas in history.

Dr. Clemmons holds both a Ph.D. and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University. She is President of Transformations, a consulting practice located in Winnetka, California, whose associates specialize in SAP business software implementation, change management, innovation, and search conferences. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Innovation at the University of Monterrey, Mexico. Her clients include MGM, Monsanto, Bausch & Lomb Surgical, Goodwill Industries, the Hazelton Foundation, and Xerox.

This event is free. All members of the Campus and JPL communities and retirees are welcome.
