CMA Presents "Seeing Mars from Both Sides: A Panel Discussion"

Tuesday, May 4, 2004
12:00pm to 1:30pm

The incredible feat of landing, operating, and interpreting the science data from the twin Spirit and Opportunity rovers on Mars has a human side. JPL Director Charles Elachi will introduce Mars Exploration Rover (MER) team members Pete Theisinger, Richard Cook, Joy Crisp, Rob Manning, and Mark Adler, who will tell their fascinating stories and show the most recent results from the always-surprising surface of Mars. Even though MER has been one of the most publicized robotic space missions to date, you won't want to miss this event, held exclusively for the Caltech Campus and JPL community.

Attendees will be provided with a box lunch as they leave Beckman Auditorium. On hand will be a full-scale rover affectionately named "Marvin," which will grace the stage with the MER panelists. In addition, the Beckman foyer will have a 15-foot, 3-dimensional panorama of one of the landing sites as well as other large-format pictures that will take your breath away. CMA members will receive special seating and have the chance to win two Lego MER rovers with the boxes signed by the panel members. You can join CMA or renew your membership outside Beckman before the event.

This event is free. All JPL/Campus personnel and retirees are welcome.
