4:45pm to 6:00pm
Add to Cal
JPL, von Karman Auditorium
Eugene W. Roddenberry, Producer, Roddenberry Productions, Inc., and Roddenberry.com,

Eugene W. Roddenberry was only 17 years old when his father, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, passed away in October 1991. At that point, he was just beginning to comprehend the extraordinary social contributions Star Trek had made. Since his father's death, Eugene's appreciation has grown enormously as he continues to encounter people from all walks of life who share amazing stories of how Star Trek has touched, inspired, and affected them. The television show and the ideals it embodies have motivated people to go beyond their perceived limitations.

Today, Eugene is building on the vision his father created, moving ahead with his own multimedia production company, Roddenberry Productions, Inc., and the family merchandising entity, Roddenberry.com. One of the projects Eugene has created is a documentary titled Trek Nation. In this CMA talk, Eugene will recount some of the remarkable conversations he has had with people who have been inspired by Gene Roddenberry's optimistic philosophy and who have incorporated Star Trek's ideologies into their own lives.

Having learned from those who knew his father and the show, he will explore how he is advancing his understanding of his father's legacy and what role he hopes the Roddenberry name will play in the future of science fiction.

This event is free. All JPL and Campus personnel, family members, and retirees are welcome.
