CMA Presents "To Do, or Not To Do: The Power of Strategic Technology Planning"

Tuesday, February 24, 2004
4:45pm to 6:00pm
Add to Cal
JPL, von Karman Auditorium
Erik K. Antonsson, JPL Chief Technologist; Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Caltech,

How does technology planning affect YOU? How do other institutions do technology planning? Is it haphazard, or methodical and well thought out? Does advancing the leading edge require dragging forward the trailing edge as well? Join JPL's Chief Technologist, Erik Antonsson, for a lively discussion of the new Strategic Technology Planning Process. Erik will guide us through the recently developed process and provide some examples of good (and not so good) technology planning. Come find out what our Chief Technologist believes is required for JPL to stay on the cutting edge.

Dr. Erik K. Antonsson, who assumed the title of JPL Chief Technologist in September 2002, is responsible for planning, implementing, and leading technology strategy. He has been a Caltech professor and researcher since 1984. He organized the Engineering Design Research Laboratory at Caltech and has made major research contributions in the area of formal methods for engineering design. He is perhaps best known on Campus for his unique course, the ME72 Engineering Design Laboratory, where students get real-world experience in the engineering design of new devices. Erik earned a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering with distinction from Cornell University in 1976 and a Ph.D. in the same discipline from MIT in 1982.

All JPL and campus personnel and retirees are welcome to attend. Information: (818) 354-6689 or [email protected].
